Transverse target spin asymmetries on a proton target at COMPASS

چکیده
Transversity and transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) are been measured in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) by using a transversely polarized target at the COMPASS experiment. COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at the CERN M2 beamline, which provides a 160 GeV/c polarized μ+ beam. In the years 2002-2004 COMPASS has collected data with a transversely polarized deuteron 6LiD target. In 2007, COMPASS has used for the first time a proton NH3 target. To access transversity COMPASS has used three different quark polarimeters: the Collins effect, responsible for an azimuthal asymmetry in the single hadron distribution, azimuthal target spin asymmetries of charged hadron pairs and the transverse polarisation of Λ hyperons. Beside this also the Sivers asymmetry arising from the correlation between the transverse nucleon spin and the quark intrinsic transverse momentum was measured.

Neutron Transversity at Jefferson Lab
Nucleon transversity and single transverse spin asymmetries have been the recent focus of large efforts by both theorists and experimentalists. On-going and planned experiments from HERMES, COMPASS and RHIC are mostly on the proton or the deuteron. Presented here is a planned measurement of the neutron transversity and single target spin asymmetries at Jefferson Lab in Hall A using a transverse...
متن کاملTransverse Spin Effects at COMPASS
The measurement of transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive deepinelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an important part of the COMPASS physics program. In the years 2002-2004 data was taken by scattering a 160GeV/c muon beam off a transversely polarized deuteron target. In 2007, additional data was collected on a transversely polarized proton target. New preliminary results for the Collins and Siver...

In the years 2002-2004 COMPASS has collected data with the LiD target polarization oriented transversely with respect to the muon beam direction for about 20% of the running time, to measure transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, one of the main objectives of the COMPASS spin program. In 2007, COMPASS has used for the first time a proton NH3 target with the data ta...
متن کاملSingle Spin Asymmetries on a Transversely Polarised Proton Target at Compass
COMPASS is a running fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS with a rich physics program focused on nucleon spin structure and on hadron spectroscopy. One of the main goals of the spin program is the measurement of the transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive DIS off transversely polarised nucleons. In the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 data have been taken using a 160 GeV /c naturally polarised µ ...
